Kids and Hot Tubs

Tips for summertime fun for kids in hottubs.

Tips and reminders for mixing kids and Hot Tubs and Swim Spas:

1 – Adjust the temperature! – cooling off the hot tub a few degrees is highly recommended, so their little bodies don’t get overwhelmed by the heat.  It is not recommended for children under five to go in tubs at temperatures meant for adults. Keep a watchful eye and remove older children if they turn red at all.  Make sure they understand the time limits on spa time if the water has not sufficiently cooled, and remember to allow time for the water to cool.

2 – Reduce the power of the jets – take them down a notch or two according to their size, age and activity of the kids in your hot tub or swim spa.

3 – Be sure to keep your hot tub covered when not in use to prevent unsupervised play.

4 – Keep children hydrated with drinks and younger children supervised at all times. Shade Umbrellas are always a welcome break from the sun on hot days.

Hottub tips for summer fun for kids5 – Have lots of water toys and games – you don’t need a lot of space to have fun with toys and apparatus in a hot tub or swim spa. Foam tubes, rubber balls, water guns, Frisbees and floating apparatus are always a source of endless play.  The LED Lighting and Water Features, both waterfalls and fountains, always make things more fun and festive for any age.  The built-in stereo on most models adds atmosphere and can be used for kids’ games such as musical chairs.

6 – Use enzyme based water treatment systems, to keep the water nice and clean without the use of a lot of chemicals on the skin of children in hot tubs. Try and make sure their swimsuits are rinsed well of all laundry detergent to avoid clouding up the water.  Having kids avoid wearing creams in the spas will also help the water remain clear.

7 – Give first swimming lessons in a shallow and safe environment before upgrading to full size swim spas.  Swim Spas are an excellent place to teach kids how to swim as you can remain stationary while supporting them as they swim against the current selected to be at a perfect pace for them.
